Review: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

To Kill a Mockingbird is a story about kindness and love. Using first person point of view, a girl named Jean Louise Finch, also often called Scout, tells her family story in details. The boyish Scout often causes problems to her family and neighbors. Though that, Maycomb people loves her so much.

To be honest, this novel is more complex than I thought. Besides the issue I already mentioned, there is also race issues. As good example, I will use Atticus Finch’s case. This famous lawyer in Maycomb is hated by the Maycomb citizens when he received a client whi happens to be is a Negro. As a result, Atticus and his family is “expelled” from the society. Nevertheless, there still a group of people that support him and his family.

In movie version, The American Film Institute considers To Kill a Mockingbird movie version as the best jurisdictional drama. Moreover, the novel also wins some prestigious awards. So, I recommend you to read it.

Real Life Is Hard, yo.

Confession in Disguise

by Yours Truly a.k.a. Me ^^

Just another ordinary day
When I approach you
And call your name
But you do not notice
So I smack your head
And you give me your full attention
With your eyes glaring daggers at me
As a bonus

We’ve been friends for like forever
Secretly
I hope that will change

I hold your hands
You raise your eyebrow
I stare into those eyes of yours
You look at me curiously
I open my mouth
And say:
“I love you.”

I wait
But you still don’t say anything
Just look at me –oh so seriously-
I stay calm, outside
My heart threatens to break, inside
I wait
For your reply

Then you laugh
And I am confused
You laugh, and laugh and laugh
Endlessly
And I just can stare at you

You stop, and look at me, amused.
“Oh God. That was so funny!
I almost believed it for a second!”

In that second,
I feel my world crumbling down on me
In that second,
My heart shatters to pieces

So I say:
“I think you just broke my heart.”

You smile at me
And say:
“Oh, really? Can I make it better?”
In that playful tone of yours

That somehow sounds
More like a mocking for my hazy mind
And I never know
Such playfulness could make it that hurt
Could make it that painful

Maybe you think
You’re just playing along
In this little
Game I play

Without knowing
How serious I am
So I say again:
“No, seriously;
I think you just broke my heart.”

You shrug
Like you actually have lost interest
In this little game
You say:
“Whatever. You coming?”

This time, I am the one
Play along with this game you made up
And say nothing
Just wave at you
Just like that
And you walk away from me

I am left
To just see you away
I am left
To wander

If I say it in a different situation
Where there are only two of us
If I refuse to play along
With your game
If I am not your best friend

Would you regard me seriously?
Would you answer me truthfully?
Would you accept me?

And I know
I will keep on wandering
For I don’t have enough
Courage anymore
For I am too afraid
To find out anymore

Just another ordinary day
When I got my heart break
For the first time

My so-called poems ^^ - 1

Simfoni Tengah Kota

Kau hentakkan kaki-kakimu
Tinggalkan penat dan bising
Di balik dinding besi dan kepingan kaca
Demi sambangi sebuah medan
Dimana satu jengkal saja begitu sulit
Untuk kaupijak dan kauraba

Kau kembangkan sayap-sayapmu,
menggelepar dan menerjang,
memojokkan prajurit-prajurit yang nyata
bukan tandingan bagimu.
Namun tak kaugubris sungai peluh
Dan erangan tertahan dari sudut-sudut

Yang terhimpit meringis
Terjepit hawa beracun dari segala penjuru
Tanpa ruang untuk bergerak
Atau sekedar bernapas lega
Tangan dan kaki membatu
Tapi harus kauseret jua
Hingga tiba ruang yang kau tuju
